What Scott Took!
For transport Scott took ponies, dogs and motorised sledges. However each of these forms of transport proved to have something wrong with it. The motorised sledges broke down, the ponies could not survive the cold and the dogs didn't want to obey the British. Because of this they spent four weeks hauling their sledges.

The Journey There.
On June the 15th, 1910, "Terra Nova" and it's crew sailed to Cardiff, Wales. They then travelled to Melbourne where a telegram was waiting for Scott, sent to him by Roald Amundsen. "Permit me to inform you that the Fram leaves for Antarctica. Amundsen." Scott knew this was trouble but it was soon pushed off his mind as other issues quickly arose.
Getting Quarters Ready.
Scott arrived in Antarctica 10 days earlier than Amundsen so had the first pick of his Camping Ground. Cape Evans was the picked spot, only 30 kilometres north of his landing place in "The Discovery."
Setting Up.
Scott had already decided that they would retrace the old route Shackleton had took. He was determined to beat Shackleton and Amundsen. Meanwhile, during the rest of the Summer, they took this as an oppourtunity to go and place some of the supply depots along the route they were to take.
Travelling to the South Pole.
The sixteen men making up Scott's party set off to the South Pole on the 2nd of November, 1911. They had taken a few motor sledges for coming across the ice shelf, 23 dogs from Siberia, 10 ponies from Siberia and 13 sledges. Skis were also used.
On reaching the Beardmore Glacier, half of the ponies had either died, been killed or become lost. The remaining 5 ponies were shot and the meat was used to set up a depot for the return journey. (If they made it!)
